LPI is very excited to announce our partnership with the International Economics Post for the October Article Cup. Submissions are officially open now.

The Article Cup is a monthly writing competition run by the IEP and partner societies, giving students the opportunity to write about current economic issues and have their work recognised and potentially published by the IEP.

The competition is open to current undergraduate and Masters students. Each participant can submit one individual piece under one of six categories:

  • Monetary Policy

  • Trade and Industrial Policy

  • Markets and Finance

  • Labour and Demographics

  • Development

  • Energy and Transition

Articles should be between 800 and 1,200 words and must be based around a specific event, data release or policy decision from 26 August 2026 onwards. Submissions should be single authored and submitted as either a PDF or Word document.

Your article will be judged on originality and editorial stance, writing style, structure and clarity, use of evidence, and citations and sourcing. The judges are looking for pieces that take a clear and interesting position while being supported by strong evidence and credible sources.

The overall winner will receive an annual Bloomberg subscription worth $300. Other submissions that meet the IEP's editorial standards may also be published as Highly Commended pieces, with full credit given to the author and their society.

The key dates are:

  • 7 October: Competition opens

  • 14 October: Internal judging begins

  • 23 October: Submissions are sent to the IEP

  • 30 October: Winner and Highly Commended articles announced

Please note that AI generated or plagiarised content is not permitted. AI can be used responsibly for research, feedback and general structure review, but the submitted work must be your own.
