Abstract:

The 2023-2024 Impact Report of the Leeds Policy Institute (LPI) highlights the organization's dual role as a think tank and student society at the University of Leeds. It reflects the institute’s commitment to providing a platform for students to engage in economic, social, and political discourse while fostering professional development. The report outlines the institute's strategic objectives, which include enhancing external engagement with students, academics, and professionals through social media and website traffic, driven primarily by LinkedIn and organic outreach efforts. Despite challenges such as a recent slowdown in website activity, LPI remains optimistic about reaching a membership target of 120, supported by an expanding Media and Communications department and new initiatives like animated data visualizations through Macrobond.

In addition to its external engagement, LPI has focused on improving internal member satisfaction, reporting high satisfaction levels and a gender-diverse membership. The report also details the institute’s financial health, with strong reserves and support from sponsors like the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) and Macrobond. Looking ahead, LPI plans to expand its network, increase funding, and improve its events and research output, all while maintaining operational independence. The institute remains committed to its long-term vision of enhancing its members' academic and social experiences, emphasising maintaining non-partisan, high-quality research output.
